Yuna's Story

The Big Cats in Crisis.

In 2024, The Big Cat Sanctuary embarked on rescuing five lions from war-torn Ukraine.

Yuna had spent her life confined to a 3x4 metre enclosure with a bare concrete floor. When she was evacuated, she was in such poor health that she could not stand. Heavy shelling had caused debris to fall just 300 metres from her enclosure, leaving her severely concussed with shell-shock and suffering from a complete loss of coordination. Yuna was the first to arrive at the sanctuary in August 2024, followed by Rori, Amani, Lira, and Vanda in March 2025. Now, all five lions have found their forever home at The Lion Rescue Centre.

“Rescued Lion Yuna” was created by wildlife artist Danielle Tomlinson to capture the powerful moment when Yuna touched grass for the first time in her life after being rescued from the war in Ukraine.

This 48 hour print sale and auction presents a rare opportunity to own both a limited edition printa and original painting by Danielle Tomlinson while directly supporting the ongoing care of Yuna, Rori, Amani, Lira, and Vanda at The Big Cat Sanctuary.
